Haematology Randwick Campus

The Department of Haematology at Randwick campus provides laboratory and consultative services to the Prince of Wales Hospital, Prince of Wales Private Hospital, Sydney Children's Hospital, the Royal Hospital for Women and Sydney Hospital.  The department offers a comprehensive service of generalised and specialised laboratory testing.  The Coagulation Laboratory performs platelet function testing, factor assays, von Willebrand's screens, thrombophilia testing and testing for inhibitors. The laboratory includes flow cytometry and haemoglobinopathy testing and has a Bone Marrow Transplant Laboratory that supports the allogenic and autologous stem cell transplantation program at Sydney Children's Hospital and an Autologous Transplant Program at the Prince of Wales Hospital.  The Haematologists provide clinical services, including inpatient and outpatient care, and a consultative service.   We treat patients with haematological malignancies, perform autologous stem cell transplants, and offer an apheresis service to the Randwick campus.  We have specialised interests in the care of patients with haemoglobinopathies and in disorders of thrombosis and haemostasis.

The Haematology Department is administratively linked to SEALS Laboratory Genetics Service, and research collaborations with colleagues at the Lowy Centre and the Sydney Cord Blood Bank.   The department participates in clinical trials in the management of venous thrombosis and immune thromboctopenia, and in phase I, II and III trials in a variety of haematological malignancies.  The Haematology Laboratory includes highly regarded Senior Scientists with responsibility for their own sections.
